Jericho--A horse show to benefit the Chittenden County 4-H Foundation is planned for Aug. 5 in Jericho. Spectators are welcome. Admission is free.

The show, sanctioned by University of Vermont (UVM) Extension, will take place at Freedom Farm on Route 15 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Both 4-H and non-4-H riders will participate in three dozen classes, competing for ribbons and championships. Seven classes are open to adults.

Judges will be Jada Payea, Milton, and Sarah LaMothe, Winooski. The former Chittenden County 4-H members are donating their time and expertise to judge the show.

All proceeds from show entries, sponsorships and raffle baskets prepared by 4-H clubs and individual 4-H'ers will be given to the Chittenden County 4-H Foundation, as will donations collected through "Canter for Cash," a new event at the horse show.

For the latter, spectators will be asked to line the outside of the show ring and hold out bills of any denomination. The top three 4-H riders from the Senior and Junior Horsemanship divisions will race around the ring at a fast-paced canter, collecting them to add to a clean muck bucket in the center of the ring. Start time is 1:45 p.m.

The Chittenden County 4-H Foundation provides generous scholarships that enable county 4-H members to attend UVM Extension events and programs including 4-H Teen Congress and national opportunities such as the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup in Louisville, Kentucky, and Citizenship Washington Focus, a national 4-H leadership and citizenship program. Funds also are used for college and career scholarships for 4-H'ers as well as funding for adult 4-H leaders and volunteers to participate in trainings at the state, regional and national level.
