Focus on approaches for making our schools more humane and just places.  Aimed at helping teachers, administrators, and concerned citizens acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to address racism and other forms of discrimination in schools.  Organized around keynote speakers and in-depth workshops, students choose several workshop that will inform their practices and lead to an action project to be presented at an October meeting.

workshop offerings:

• developing strategies to address bullying & harassment in schools
• creating environments for effective teaching in heterogeneous classrooms
• addressing stereotypes and encouraging healthy diversity-related conversations within schools
• evaluating institutional policies and practices in terms of equity goals
• addressing whiteness and privilege in ourselves and our students
• integrating antiracist teaching into curriculum
• responding to bias incidents in schools
• using literature to address racism in k-12 settings

Course: EDSS 200: Building More Just & Caring Schools
Time: 8:30 - 4:00 MTWRF and 1/2 day in October
Credits: 3 (Non-Credit Option Available)
Register by July 10th.  Registrants will then select specific workshops.
