Integrative Pain Management Conference

April 7th

In response to the national opioid crisis, The Joint Commission, CDC, the American College of Physicians and the Vermont Legislature have encouraged medical professionals to make greater use of non-pharmacologic approaches to pain management. The April 7th conference is designed to introduce providers to non-drug alternatives for managing pain that they may not be aware of.

Attendees will be able to:

  • Experience demonstrations of non-pharmacologic interventions
  • Speak with integrative health care providers geographically accessible to their patients
  • Hear from payors on their plans for covering integrative care
  • Learn about UVM Integrative Health's Practitioner Database, which can connect them with pre-vetted professionals across the integrative healthcare spectrum

Keynoters and workshop presenters include:

  • Opening Remarks, Dr. Mark Levine, Commissioner of Health
  • Speakers from the Department of Defense, the Veterans Administration and the Academy of Integrative Pain Management who have been working with integrative approaches to complex pain management for decades
  • Katy Hansen, NP, who is leading a very successful Integrative Clinic at Vanderbilt University
  • Dr. Paula Gardiner of Boston University Medical Center, who has pioneered the use of integrative medical group visits (IMGVs) for low-income patients
