The Universal Design Technology Lab (UDTL) serves individuals with disabilities and specializes in assistive technologies that help with reading, writing, studying and information access. We provide services for students, faculty, and staff with the following disabilities: vision (blindness and low vision), mobility impairment, learning (dyslexia, ADHD, and others) and hearing loss.

The computers, software, and adaptive equipment in the lab provide

  • access for blind users via speech output or braille;
  • magnification of the screen for people with low vision
  • use of speech recognition as a writing tool;
  • tool to make the reading and writing process easier;
  • the capability to create and produce documents in alternative formats such as e-text, braille, large print etc.

In addition to the technology described above, the lab staff can provide

  • an introduction to access technology;
  • basic training and documentation on the hardware and software available in the lab;
  • accessible electronic resource and media consulting

The UDTL is located in the Bailey Howe Library on the 2nd Floor.
