Scholarship Opportunities

Whenever possible, the TRIO/SSS program makes scholarship announcements available to our students.

All TRIO/SSS students are eligible to apply for the Barry Mansfield TRIO Scholarship, which gives a worthy student $200 towards the cost of books for the upcoming year. Barry,who served as the director of TRIO/Project STAY for 23 years, was dedicated to the academic success of all TRIO students.
The scholarship was created in 1999 to honor his dedicated service to TRIO and to recognize a current Project STAY student who exemplifies the standard of academic success.

UVM Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship - Annual competition for future scientists, mathematicians and engineers. The deadline is early December for the following academic year.


The following sites present ongoing opportunities for academic scholarships.

College Board - Scholarship search site which maintains a database of over 2,300 funding sources that distributed more than $3 billion in awards last year.

FastWEB - A search program with more than 180,000 available scholarships in its database.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund - HSF has awarded more than 73,000 scholarships totalling over $170 million in its 30-year history of supporting higher education goals for Hispanic college students. Varying programs and deadlines.

MALDEF (The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund) - Approximately 100 individual scholarship opportunities with varying requirements and deadlines.Many are general or based upon financial need; others are specific to gender,career goals, region of the country or field of study.

Supercollege.com - Each year scholarships are awarded to outstanding college students. Apply online. The deadline is July 31 every year.

The Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 in funding tostudents pursuing graduate degrees in public service fields. Students must be college juniors at the time of selection. The Foundation also provides assistance with career counseling, internship placement, graduate school admissions, and professional development. Students who are accepted as Scholars are invited to participate in a number of programs: Truman Scholar Leadership Week, The Summer Institute, The Truman Fellows Program, and the Public Service Law Conference. Please visit the website for an overview of the programs the Foundation currently offers. The application deadline is early February each year.
