About Clean Cities

About Clean Cities

The mission of the Clean Cities program is to advance the economic, environmental and energy security of the U.S. by supporting local decisions to adopt practices that contribute to reduced petroleum consumption in the transportation sector.

The Vermont Clean Cities Coalition (VCCC) was initiated in 2001. Past and present stakeholders are numerous and diverse consisting of both individuals and organizations. VCCC activities have included maintaining information and databases, writing grant proposals, creating public awareness and interacting within the national network of Clean Cities programs.

In late fall 2006 the UVM Transportation Research Center was selected as the new permanent host for the Vermont Clean Cities Coalition to start July 1, 2007. Between January 2007 and June 2007 the Snelling Center for Government and the UVM Transportation Center will work cooperatively to coordinate the VCCC activities and program.

Current VCCC activities include the following:

VCCC program staff disseminate an e-newsletter to approximately 600 email addresses on a monthly basis. E-newsletter content is derived from a number of sources, such as the national clean cities list serve, Vermont daily newspapers and Coalition partners. News and policy discussions related to the Clean Cities mission in Vermont are highlighted. To be added to the e-newsletter list or suggest content contact Tom McGrath

The UVM Transportation Research Center has developed this website to provide news and information about the VCCC program and activities. Content will continue to be added to the web. All e-newsletters will be archived on the site as well as reports and publications.

Proposal Preparation

The DOE makes routine calls for proposals for VCCC programs. The UVM Transportation Research Center will work with Vermont partners to prepare proposals in response to these calls. Depending on the composition of any given proposal team, the Center may also be able to provide technical writing and editing assistance. The VCCC will facilitate the partners meeting to define work plans and proposed tasks. As reasonable, the VCCC will also track funding opportunities with other agencies and will communicate this information to the Clean Cities partners.

Annual Clean Cities Meeting

In the Spring of each year, the Vermont Clean Cities Coalition hosts a stakeholders meeting to review the past year and to help plan for the future years. View minutes and PPT presentation from the previous meetings: 2009, 2008 and 2007.

Database Development and Annual Report

The VCCC is required to keep an up-to-date database of stakeholders, community fleets, alternative fueled vehicles and re-fueling stations.

National Representation

The coordinator of the VCCC at the UVM Transportation Research Center will provide Vermont representation to the regional and national Clean Cities coalitions. This representation will consist of conference participation and conference call meetings. Other activities may be included as opportunities arise.
