About Students for True Animal Rights at UVM

Mission Statement
Visit to Farm Sanctuary (Spring 2006)

Mission Statement

We will focus on the rights of other animals. We will also explore the various cultures and languages of different species, both "wild" and "domesticated". By focusing on these interests, we will educate the community on the cultural uniqueness and individual rights deserved of other animals. To bring change towards many forms of discrimination in this world, we must begin by identifying every form of social justice. We are activists for social justice for the rights of other animals.

Purpose

Purpose

The overall purpose of STAR is to educate the community about the rights of other animals. We will do so by revering the uniqueness and importance of biodiversity. In doing so, we will try to work with other organizations, both on campus and in the community, concerning conservation issues and the welfare and rights of other animals. We will also regularly discuss and involve ourselves in such issues within the organization, including habitat management, animal testing, pet ownership, eating habits, endangered species, rehabilitation, interference, zoos and aquariums, and other ethical and political issues.

As a recognized organization, we will attend both academic and activist animal rights conferences. We will volunteer at local shelters and rehabilitation facilities. We will also take on projects concerning education and the betterment of other animals. We will host different cultural and educational events and activities on campus. These events will include dinners, festivals, and other activities that revere and celebrate the various cultures and languages of other animals and increase awareness of animal rights.
