On-Farm Irrigation Workshop Offered May 18

Dry spring?  Wet spring?  Whatever's happening right now, we know that a drought isn't too far away.

Farmers are invited to come learn about how to install or improve drip irrigation systems. Efficient systems are becoming increasingly important given weather extremes and food safety concerns.  

Trevor Hardy of Brookdale Fruit Farm in Hollis, NH,* will walk us through the basics of irrigation in the field and greenhouses. Specific topics will include:

  • Design, layout, and component selection
  • Determining water requirements and irrigation scheduling
  • Operation and maintenance of your system
  • Fertigation for efficient nutrient applications

About Our Farm Hosts: River Berry Farm is a family owned organic small fruit and vegetable farm operating on the Lamoille River in Fairfax, Vermont since 1992. Farmers are Jane Sorensen, David Marchant and their two children, Huck and Ada, along with the farm crew of 8 -10 seasonal employees. They grow 50 acres of organic vegetables, 3 acres of strawberries, 1-1/2acre of organic raspberries and 18,000 square feet of greenhouse.
