Annual Vermont Sustainable Agriculture Award

A Past Award Recipient in Burlington's Intervale

Each year, the Sustainable Agriculture Council seeks to recognize farms and collaborative efforts to ensure the economic, environmental and social sustainability of Vermont's farming sector.

The Council received five terrific nominations for the 2013 award, and is in the process of evaluating them. A winner will be announced at the February 15-17 NOFA-VT conference in Burlington, Vermont, and in the winner's community.

About the SAC Award Nomination Process

The Sustainable Agriculture Council seeks to recognize efforts to promote the vitality of Vermont's food system with practices that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. The council is glad to receive nominations for an individual farm, or the innovative practices of a team that includes a farm.

Criteria used to evaluate each nomination include the extent to which it demonstrates:

  • enhanced economic viability of Vermont farms;
  • community engagement;
  • environmental benefits;
  • a social justice emphasis; and
  • strong collaboration.
  • The selection committee is comprised of representatives from the Sustainable Agriculture Council and others. The next round of nominations will be welcomed in December 2014 or January 2015.

    Five outstanding operations were nominated for the 2013 award, including the Caring Dairy Program, Consider Bardwell Farm, Laughing Child Farm, Tamarlane Farm, and Taylor Farm.
