Annual Vermont Sustainable Agriculture Award
The Sustainable Agriculture Council seeks to recognize farms and collaborative efforts to ensure the economic, environmental and social sustainability of Vermont's farming sector. The Council is welcoming nominations for the 2014 Vermont Sustainable Agriculture Award until 5 p.m. on Friday, January 23rd.
About the SAC Award Nomination Process
The Sustainable Agriculture Council seeks to recognize efforts to promote the vitality of Vermont's food system with practices that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. The council is glad to receive nominations for an individual farm, or the innovative practices of a team that includes a farm.
Criteria used to evaluate each nomination include the extent to which it demonstrates:
- enhanced economic viability of Vermont farms;
- community engagement;
- environmental benefits;
- a social justice emphasis; and
- strong collaboration.
The selection committee is comprised of representatives from the Sustainable Agriculture Council and others.
To nominate a farm or team for this year's award, please either complete this form or send a letter or email that contains:
- Name of the farm(s) including name of farmer(s), and location. Who are team members, if relevant?
- What does the farm produce?
- What practices stand out as especially beneficial for Vermont land, communities and farm economy?
- What are the economic, environmental and/or social benefits of the farm's/team's activities?
- Whether or not we have permission to post the information submitted in your nomination (your answer will not influence our decision).

About Past SAC Award Recipients
Five outstanding operations were nominated for the 2013 award, including the Caring Dairy Program, Consider Bardwell Farm, Laughing Child Farm, Tamarlane Farm, and Taylor Farm. The committee was privileged to honor Consider Bardwell and Wayward Goose Farms with the 2013 award, which was presented at the February 15 NOFA-VT Winter Conference held at UVM's Davis Center.
