Well, the Student Government Association (SGA) can transform your
wonder into reality through its Student Neighborhood Initiative Grant.
According to Lucan Morgan, Chair of the Committee
on Legislative Action (COLA) that created the grant, “the
objectives of this initiative are to supply a direct avenue for
positive student involvement in the community, to foster
relationships between the students and the neighbors, and to strengthen
relations between University of Vermont students and the residents of
Burlington.” To meet the objectives, the SGA and COLA have
dedicated $1,000 for this effort to strengthen student involvement in
the Burlington community. If you are interested in applying you

Here's the Lowdown on Recycling Downtown
Scenes like this are pretty common off campus and
end up causing more work for recycling truck drivers, not to mention a
ton of unnecessary street trash. People have good intentions but
sometimes end up over stuffing bins, putting bins out at the wrong
time, and contaminating recycling with trash. We need your help to
change this! Here are some tips for how to recycle properly.

We are currently looking for Fleet Assistants and Pod Nannies to help
out with cleaning and maintaining our cars and shoveling them out in
the winter (driving credits are available in exchange for your

Smoke
Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With
Early warning of a fire in your apartment means
precious moments to escape safely. Make sure that you have the proper
number of smoke alarms/carbon monoxide detectors and that they are
functioning properly.
There should be one smoke/carbon monoxide alarm
outside each sleeping area and on every level of your apartment. These
are required by Burlington city ordinance to be hardwired by your
property owners so that when
one goes off they all go off. Make sure to test them once a month by
pushing the test button and change the batteries twice a year OR
whenever you hear them chirping. Do not disable or tamper with
smoke/carbon monoxide alarms at any time! Tampering could result in a
fine from the city of Burlington.
In addition, remember to never leave stuffed
furniture outside. It is a huge fire hazard and also can lead to a $500
fine. It is also important to keep grills off of the porch and at least
15ft away from the building when in use.

Haunted Forest
Mysterious guides lead guests through the dark and foreboding forest,
where paths are lit by over 1,000 flickering Jack-O’-Lanterns.
Throughout their passage, visitors encounter strange

An evening of ghosts, haunts, and tragic stories as you walk back in
time to the early days of Burlington. This tour is the perfect blend of

Pumpkin
Regatta &
Festival
Local business
leaders, students, and others race in
giant hollowed-out gourds, in a competition of size and speed. This
year’s event will also feature a Pumpkin Festival with food
vendors,
activities and entertainment located on the Burlington Waterfront. Sun.
10/11, 10am-3pm. Free.
Pick
Your Own Pumpkins
Head down to Burlington's Intervale and pick your own pumpkins at Fat
Michell's Pumpkin Patch! Fun fall activities (pumpkin painting &
carving, hayrides, and giant pumpkin displays) throughout the season.
Open Mon. - Sun, 10am-5pm.
