The
Haunted Forest
Mysterious guides lead guests through the dark and foreboding forest,
where paths are lit by over 1,000 flickering Jack-O’-Lanterns.
Throughout their passage, visitors encounter strange
and fascinating
characters in a variety of scenes befitting the Halloween season.
Thurs. 10/22- Sat.,10/31, 7-10pm at the Catamount
Outdoor Family Center.

Spirit
of the Tower Walk
A frightful Halloween stroll through Ethan Allen Park, passing by the
Ethan Allen Tower (and going in if you dare!), highlighted with glowing
pumpkins and scary stories along the way! Sat.,10/17, 5:30- 9pm at
Ethan Allen Park on North Avenue. $3 per person.
Queen
City Ghost Walk
An evening of ghosts, haunts, and tragic stories as you walk back in
time to the early days of Burlington. Learn about a suicidal cook, a
captain of industry gone insane and a heroic firefighter, among many
other colorful characters and spooks. This tour is the perfect blend of
goose bumps, humor and history. Thurs., Fri., and Sat. nights 7pm
10/15-10/31. Meet at City Hall Park. $13 per person. For more info call

Pumpkin
Regatta &
Festival
Local business
leaders, students, and others race in
giant hollowed-out gourds, in a competition of size and speed. This
year’s event will also feature a Pumpkin Festival with food
vendors,
activities and entertainment located on the Burlington Waterfront. Sun.
10/11, 10am-3pm. Free.
Pick
Your Own Pumpkins
Head down to Burlington's Intervale and pick your own pumpkins at Fat
Michell's Pumpkin Patch! Fun fall activities (pumpkin painting &
carving, hayrides, and giant pumpkin displays) throughout the season.
Open Tues. - Sun, 11am-5:30pm until Halloween.

Community Voice: Vandalism In Our Neighborhoods

Has your car been broken into, windows smashed, or
your neighborhood generally trashed? This fall Burlington residents
have woken up to find vandalism (often tied to property theft as in the
case with smashed car windows and items stolen from those cars) in
their neighborhoods.
I have found trash cans tossed into my yard and
the pickets in my fence kicked in. Front Porch
Forum, a
neighborhood
e-newsletter, has been lighting up with student and long-time residents
sharing their disgust for the late-night actions of a few. In the South
Union neighborhood, several thousand dollars of loss from one type of
property crime has been particularly frustrating. The target - young
maple trees recently planted that lined the streets. Few of these trees
now remain and like the other vandalism, it is senseless and shows that
those responsible have no respect for the communities they are in.
 Knowing
what to do about this is the hardest
thing. For me, I simply pick up the broken pickets, take the trash and
trash cans out of my yard, and do my best to clean up. I'm in the
process of replacing my fence pickets and I see others in the
neighborhood restoring their property to its pre-vandalism condition in
an effort to show that they're not going to let their neighborhood look
that way for long. Take pride in the place you live in. I love it here
and have seen so many couples, families and students also loving
Burlington over the 5 years I have lived and worked here. It's
depressing when my niece wakes up and asks why our fence is broken, or
when folks go to their cars to go to work and find their windows
smashed in and belongings stolen. We all need to take pride in our
communities, aggressively call the police when we see or hear this
vandalism in progress, and stop the actions at the source if we ever
see one of our friends in the act. Be happy, enjoy this great place,
and take pride in your space and in this community that you share with
neighbors.

Branch Out Burlington
A group of volunteers who help plant and care
for the trees of Burlington. Their goal is to promote a vision of a
city graced by a variety of beautiful and healthy trees, and a
citizenry actively involved with the perpetual expansion and
preservation of our urban forest.
Connect
Friends and Neighbors to the Parallel Justice Program
The Parallel Justice program is
available to every victim of crime that occurred in Burlington since
July 1, 2006, even if the incident was not reported to the police.
Assistance might be as simple as a supportive conversation about the
incident or connecting someone to resources in the community, or as
involved as walking someone through the court process and ensuring
their basic needs are met.
Join the Graffiti Removal Team's Spooky
Clean Up
Come out Sat Oct 31st, 10am-noon, and paint out graffiti. Wear a
costume! Hand out candy and help make Burlington feel safer! RSVP here or call

Share Your Input on Burlington's Future!
What are the 6 most important places in your
neighborhood? What businesses/amentities would you like to see added to
your
neighborhood,  the
downtown, and waterfront? The Burlington Planning Commission and the
Planning and Zoning Dept. are
seeking
resident input on the
re-write of the Municipal
Development Plan, the city’s long-range
vision for land-use and development. Be heard by attending the
Neighborhood Improvement Night. Only two left!
