The University of Vermont Satellites, Weather and Climate (SWAC) program will hold an information fair for K-12 students and their parents and for teachers at the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center on Sunday, Dec. 5.
Session 1, for students and parents, will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Meteorologists from local television stations, Lyndon State College and the National Weather Service will be on hand to talk about their field and answer questions. Students and families can also experiment with weather instruments and the CricketSWAC temperature sensors.
Session 2, the Action Research Conference for Teachers, will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Teachers in this session will learn about the SWAC program and ways of implementing its core concepts in their classrooms. K-12 teaches are invited to the event.
Satellite, Weather and Climate (SWAC) is an in-service professional development program, funded by the National Science Foundation and the Vermont Department of Education, for science and mathematics teachers designed to enhance their content knowledge and geospatial skills in the atmospheric, climate, geospatial and earth sciences; geography; history; and other sciences.
