BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior Ryan Gillette (Lowville, N.Y.), juniors Max Gradinger (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) and Evan O’Brien (Winthrop, Mass.) and sophomore Geoff Worley (Coronado, Calif.) have been named captains for the Vermont men’s lacrosse team. Head coach Ryan Curtis made the announcement today.
“I’m excited to introduce this group as our captains,” Curtis said. “This is a group that understands and appreciates what this roll truly means. They have the respect of their teammates and the coaching staff and we are excited to have them in place to help take this program to the next level.”
Gillette has 10 goals and five assists for 15 points in 40 career games. Last season he had three goals and seven points in 13 contests as a midfielder for the Catamounts.
Gradinger played in all 14 games last season and had a team leading 41 ground balls. The long stick midfielder has 70 ground balls in his two seasons with the Catamounts.
O’Brien has played 26 games on defense in his two seasons. He has 40 career ground balls.
Worley was named to the America East All-Rookie Team last season. He played in all 14 games and was second on the team in scoring with 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points. His 20 assists were first on the team and fifth among America East players. Worley also had an 11-game scoring streak to start the season and he posted a multi-point game in 12 of 14 contests.
The Vermont men’s lacrosse program recently held the Catamount Classic – Lacrosse For A Cure at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Mass. The 11-team tournament raised more than $40,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
