BURLINGTON, Vt. – University of Vermont pitcher Justin Albert (Hull, Mass.) has signed a contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A trio of University of Vermont student-athletes have been honored by the America East Conference. May Kotsopoulos (Waterloo, Ontario), a member of the women's basketball team, Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario), a member of the women's lacrosse team and Joe Serafin (Tariffville, Conn.), a member of the baseball team, were named America East Scholar-Athletes for their respective sports this season. BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont athletic department posted its best ranking in the final standings for the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup for the second straight year. The Catamounts cracked the top-100 (98th) for the first time in school history with a school record 183 points. BURLINGTON, Vt. – A pair of Catamounts, one current and one former, have wrapped up competing at the 2009 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic. Current Vermont head coach Jen Johnson led Ireland to a fifth place finish, while former standout Vanessa Cox '05 helped the Canadian team earn the bronze medal at the tournament that concluded on June 27. Sharks Release
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Former University of Vermont standout and two-time captain Dean Strong ‘09 has signed with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League. Sharks general manager Wayne Thomas made the announcement this week. Worcester is the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, who led the National Hockey League in points in the regular season this past year. Full story...
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Vermont has been awarded the America East Academic Cup for an unprecedented fifth consecutive year, the conference office made the announcement today. UVM student-athletes achieved a 3.14 cumulative grade-point average during the 2008-09 year. It ties the highest grade-point average in the 14-year history of the award, which the Catamounts set during the 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2007-08 academic years. Full story...
