Wetlands Ecology and Management
Course Description

This course promotes understanding of the structure and function of wetland ecosystems, familiarity with wetland inhabitants, and appreciation of the role wetlands play in flood, nutrient and erosion control.

Among the topics explored are wetlands delineation, hydrology, soils, biogeochemistry, plant and animal adaptations to wetlands, types of wetlands (freshwater and salt marshes, mangroves, peatlands, riparian forests, and freshwater swamps), wetlands regulations and management.

Prerequisites:  General biology and ecology (Biology 1 and 2, NR 103 or equivalents).
