Integrating Technology into Higher Education Coursework

An Online Learning Resource

By Sandra A. Lathem
Welcome!

This online learning resource is devoted to the topic of integrating technology into higher education coursework.  It is specifically focused on coursework offered through departments of education where undergraduate students learn to become teachers.

The College of Education and Social Services (CESS) at the University of Vermont, as many other colleges of education across the nation, is working hard to prepare teachers who are competent to teach in today's schools where teaching with technology is considered a standard competency.

We know, however, that whereas many new teachers are using information technology for personal use and productivity, they often lack skills and strategies to integrate technology into teaching and are less confident about using technology effectively to improve student learning.

This online resource is divided into six areas of concentration to explore why and how information technology can be more fully integrated into courses that pre-service educators experience.  Each topic presents a "quest" for learning more about technology integration in higher education and challenges you to select information that supports a personal discovery of effective technology use in your own courses.

One note before beginning:  Many web pages referenced in this module need to be viewed in Internet Explorer rather than in Netscape.  Some sites require installation of the RealPlayer plug-in. for viewing video clips.  Acrobat Reader software is also required for viewing many documents stored in .pdf format.
