Integrating Technology into Higher Education Coursework

Planning

Integrating technology into teaching involves moving through a series of stages. Early stages may require taking workshops and learning new skills about computers.  Word processing, electronic mail, and Internet browsing provide initial experiences and skills that are repeated in other applications.  Knowledge gained through one program spills over into others, and application of these new skills spreads to other areas.

Depending on your skill set and experience, your plan for integrating technology will be unique.  In developing a plan for yourself, assess your current level of knowledge, consider what you want to learn next, locate resources to support your efforts, and set some achievable goals.

Quest 5: Creating a Plan

Create a personal plan for technology integration.  Consider the following steps:

Assess your Skills. Identify what you need to learn.
Take a self-survey of your strengths and weaknesses.

Choose theStandards you want to address.

List some ideas you may have for using technology, such as --
        • professional productivity
        • communications with colleagues or students
        • web-based assignments/research
        • course or professional web pages
        • multi-media presentations,
        • technology with students in your classroom.

        ReviewModelsand Strategies  for ideas.

Decide what you need to learn in order to achieve this goal. Write a plan.

Locate Resourcesto help you achieve these goals.
