Integrating Technology into Higher Education Coursework

Standards and Expectations

College and university professors are using technology to support traditional expectations -- in teaching, research and service. Electronic search tools and the Internet are commonly used to conduct research. Electronic mail and listservs are frequently used tools for communication. But what about technology for teaching? How is it being used to support new ways to learn?

Research tells us that teachers teach the way they were taught. Even when teachers possses technology skills, many continue to employ the same methods with which they were taught. Today, expectations for university faculty are shifting -- professors are expected to model effective integration of technology in their higher education courses.
