INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOING A STUDENT ID # SEARCH
- Anytime you are in any Banner form and are in the ID field, you can query to find a
student's ID #.
- If you do a LIST in the ID field, this will take you to another form called SOAIDNS
.
- Use the tab key to move between fields.
- Tab to the Last Name field. Type in the last name of the student. This search is case
sensitive so remember to use capital letters when appropriate. Follow the last name with %.
i.e.: Smith%
- Tab to the First Name field and type in the first name of the student. Follow the
first name with %. i.e.: Jane%
- EXECUTE QUERY to search for the student's ID #.
- Use the down arrow to view the next record.
- Once you have found the student, use the down arrow to position the cursor at the
correct name and SELECT the student. You will be returned to the original BANNER form
with the student's ID # and name filled in the ID field.
*HINT: The % sign is used as a "wild card" in Banner. Anytime you are
doing a name search in Banner, you should always use%. This helps to insure you will get last
names with "Jr" or "III", hyphenated last names, first names that may also contain an
inital. For example, if you search for Smith John, you would not get:
- Smith-Thompson John
- Smith,Jr John
- Smith,III John
- Smith John-A
Using Smith% John% would retrieve all the examples above. You can never be sure how a name
was entered in BANNER, so maximize your search by always using %.
The % can also be used if you are uncertain of a person's name or its spelling. If
you aren't sure if the person is John or Jonathan, search on Jo% rather than spelling the
entire name. If you aren't sure if Van Dyke has a space between the two last names, search
on Van%Dyke%. If you aren't sure if the spelling is Pedersen, Pederson, Petersen, or Peterson,
search on Pe%ers%n%.
