Stream Monitoring
The assessment and monitoring activities on Tributary 7 of Potash Brook have recently been completed. The condition of the stream, as it runs through the Butler Farms and Oak Creek Village study neighborhoods, has been evaluated through a combination of surveys, flow monitoring, and storm event surveys. The purpose of these activities is to provide a snap-shot in time of the existing physical and biological conditions, to collect data on stream water quality during storm events, and evaluate rainfall and stream flow characteristics. These measurements will serve as a baseline for comparison to future conditions that may be influenced by the implementation of storm water management or stream restoration practices within the neighborhoods.
The RAN team is also conducting stream monitoring outside Butler Farms/Oak Creek in a project studying 3 stormwater impaired streams and 3 attainment streams within or near Chittenden County. The goal of this project is to utilize numerous assessment methods (structural, biological, and functional) to study the ecological impacts associated with urban stormwater runoff on streams in the area.
