RAN GRANT TEAM PROFILES AND CONTACT INFORMATION Mr. Alexander Hackman Research Assistant
Alex Hackman is a graduate student at the University of Vermont
in the Aquatic
Ecology and Watershed Science program. His work is focused on the effects
of
stormwater runoff on small urban streams. Under the guidance of Dr. Breck
Bowden, he is managing research at eight sites that includes hydrologic
monitoring, stormwater sampling, geomorphic and biological surveys,
whole-stream metabolism and nutrient uptake length experiments.

Prior to beginning graduate school in the fall of 2003, Alex
held a variety of
professional positions involving environmental policy, enforcement, assessment,
and research. From 1994 to 1999, he worked in the Boston area on environmental
assessment and hazardous waste site cleanup for an engineering firm and also
the Department of Environmental Protect. From 2000-2003, he performed
ecological research for the University of California in the Sierra Nevada
Mountains of eastern California, and then managed enforcement and environmental
planning for the Town of Mammoth Lakes.
