| Pinnacle Studio is a Window's Operating System
based solution for digital video editing and creation. You will need a camera
that can take digital video (dv), preferably an iEEE 1394 (or Firewire)
connection on the camera and computer, and enough hard drive space to store
captured video. Raw digital video will consume a great deal of space on
your hard drive. You will need a 300 or faster CPU(Pentium 2 and up),
128 MB RAM, Windows 98 Second Edition, and 200 MB of harddrive space for
installation. You will use 128 MB of hard drive space for every 20
minutes of preview quality video that is captured. Here are some basic
features of the program: |
|
- Connect your camera to your computer using the iEEE 1394 cord (usually
sold separately from machines). The iEEE 1394 wire outputs video and
audio to another source, all in one cord. Each camera and computer
are different, but most will indicate the necessary ports by a "dv"
or 1394 icon.
- Turn your camera to the "Play" or "VCR" mode
- Double click on the Pinnacle Studio 7.0 icon on your desktop (or
once in your Programs folder)
|
|
- You will see this dialogue box appear:
|
|
|
|
- You can control your camera directly from this interface. Click
the play, rewind, fast forward, stop, and pause buttons on the camera
icon to cue your tape.
- The view finder in the upper right hand corner of the interface will
display the video footage. At this point, you are only viewing
your film footage from the camera.
|
|
Step 1: Capturing Video
- After cueing your video to a point where you wish to capture (or
download) your video on your computer's hard drive, click the green
Start Capture button in the lower right portion of the interface.
- Pinnacle will prompt you to name the capture video piece. Any
name that will delineate the particular captured video from others will
do.
- Click Start Capture and you will see a small video frame appear
in your Album(upper left area of the interface). The Album
stores your captured video for editing later.
- Click Stop Capture when you have the desired footage in the Album.
- You have now "downloaded" your video footage onto your computer!
The original footage remains on the tape, so what you have is an exact
copy of the video that is now stored on your computer's hard drive.
Now you are ready to Edit.
|
|
Step 2: Editing Video
- To begin editing, click on the editing tab at the top of the interface
(as pictured below).
|
|
 |
|
- In the editing view, you will see your captured video clips in the
album. You can choose other captured clips by clicking once on
the drop down menu above the clip image in the album.
- You can play, rewind, fast forward, and cue your clip using the viewer
to the right of the album.
- When you are ready to manipulate the clip, click and drag in down
to the timeline (as indicated by the red line above). Release it on
the line next to the camera icon.
- If you do not see the timeline view, click once on the View
menu and choose Timeline.
- Double click on the clip in the timeline and a new menu will appear
above.
|
|
 |
|
- You will notice two crop marks below the selected clip (highlight
above).
- Click and drag the crop marks to the up and down the bar. Moving
the first mark from left to right will crop footage off the beginning
of the clip, and the second (right mark) from left to right will crop
the end of the clip.
- Pinnacle Studio will automatically adjust the clip in in the timeline
as it is manipulated.
- You can also choose any of the other buttons to the left of the clip
in the edit viewer (As show and highlighted below for color adjustment)
|
|

*move the sliders to adjust color, brightness, etc. Also, you can
choose black and white or other options from the white drop down menu.* |
