Campus Window Air Conditioners
From the UVM Energy Management Office - The UVM campus community should order only the following for window or stand-alone air conditioning (a/c) units:
"Window unit efficiency is measured in Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). Baseline systems often have a SEER of 10.0. High-efficiency units are available with SEER's of 12.0 and above. Most high efficiency window air conditioners receive an ENERGY STAR label. To reduce building heat loss during the winter months, cover or remove the window unit." - Efficiency Vermont on Window A/C Units
ENERGY STAR label facts:
-ENERGY STAR qualified room air conditioners
use at least 10% less energy than conventional models (EER of 10.7 or
higher).
-ENERGY STAR qualified room air conditioners often include timers for better
temperature control, allowing you to use the minimum amount of energy you
need to cool your room.
The UVM Energy Management Office would like to endorse specifying only air conditioning units with a minimum EER of 10.7. In addition, UVM should only purchase units that have received the U.S. EPA's ENERGY STAR label.
