Biography: David W. Orr, Ph.D.
Professor and Chair, Environmental Studies Program
Oberlin College
Dr.
Orr is currently the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies
and Politics at Oberlin College. He also served as Professor of Environmental
Studies and Politics and Chair of the Environmental Studies Program at Oberlin
College for 12 years. Dr. Orr is best known for his pioneering work on environmental
literacy in higher education and his recent work in ecological design. He was
awarded a Bioneers Award in 2002, a National Conservation Achievement
Award by the National Wildlife Federation in 1993, a Lyndhurst Prize
in 1992, and the Benton Box Award for his work in environmental education.
Dr. Orr has authored five books, he has published 120 articles and is contributing
editor of Conservation Biology. Dr. Orr received a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Westminster College, a Master of Arts degree from Michigan State
University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the International Relations
University of Pennsylvania.
