Biography: William A. Darity, Jr. Ph.D.

Dr. Darity has served as the Cary C. Boshamer Professor of Economics and Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 1991. In 1999, he became the Director of the Institute of African-American Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. That same year, he began his appointment as Research Professor of Public Policy, African and African-American Studies and Economics at Duke University. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Darity has published or edited 10 books and more than 125 articles in professional journals. His research focuses on inequality by race, class and ethnicity. His scholarly work includes the economics of reparations, the Atlantic slave trade, and stratification economics. Dr. Darity received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University, underwent post-undergraduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
