Campus Planning Services


Campus Planning Services is within and reports to the Division of University Relations and Administration and is responsible for a diversity of major functions that all relate to land use and space use on- and off-campus. Vermont is a unique environment that treats UVM as a "municipality" and a "developer," requiring a University adopted campus master plan that complies with local and regional master plans and extensive "land use" environmental regulatory processes. Campus Planning Services' major functions include:

Campus Master Planning

Development and implementation of land use planning policies

Land Use Regulatory Processes

Assessment and advocacy with local, regional, and state regulatory agencies as zoning ordinances are revised, and all zoning permit acquisition and compliance

Real Estate Management

Including lease negotiation, development and management, sale and acquisition of property, administration of leases and deeds, rent collection, administration of municipal tax and PILOT obligations, and preparation of leases, deeds, and easements in conjunction with the Office of the General Counsel

Space Management Planning

Including development and implementation of policies and guidelines to maximize the use of existing facilities, future uses and needs of new facilities, management of the space inventory database and associated AutoCAD building diagrams in the Facilities Administration and Maintenance Information System (FAMIS)

City/Institutional Relations

As related to land use and regulatory functions with city representatives, community leaders, and neighbors from the surrounding community



UVM's Transportation Demand Management Successes Featured on CCTV's ECOS in Action

UVM was featured on a recent episode of CCTV's ECOS in Action on Live at 5:25. Watch to see how some employees are taking charge of their health and their carbon footprint through CATMA's programs and in turn, UVM is able to realize its land use goals while decreasing the number of cars on campus.

Student & Faculty/Staff Housing Master Plan

UVM is developing a Housing Master Plan that will guide our efforts through 2026. Concepts of the plan have been developed and can be viewed here.

The Campus Master Plan provides a clear policy framework to guide the on-going activities of campus planning and future decisions. It ensures that projects are planned comprehensively within the context of UVM's mission.
