Unit Title:Family Life, Elephants and Folk Tales in Thailand

| Unit Overview: |
| This lower primary level unit introduces students to various aspects of Thai culture and life through a range of activities. Reading comprehension, writing, listening and team work skills are developed as students learn about Thai family life, a Thai festival, the historical significance and role of elephants and the role of folk tales in Thai culture. |
| Essential Questions: |
| How are Thai people like us and how is there culture different? |
| Culminating Task: |
- Student and teacher narrative on elephants published in a bound book;
- Student book showing a child's view of how kids and elephants are alike, based on the Red Clover nominee, Elephants Can Paint Too by Katya Arnold;
- Elephant clay sculpture;
- Illustrations and summaries of folktales;
- Final assessment paper showing how the U.S.A. and Thailand are alike and different.
