GIAC China : The Year Two Program Description

Funded largely with grant funds from the Freeman Foundation, GIAC China is a three-week program designed as a follow-up to the GIAC Vermont program.

The GIAC China program enables participating students to learn about Chinese culture through direct experience in various settings and contacts with Chinese people and students.

GIAC China students will visit historical and cultural sites such as:

  • The Great Wall, Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven in Beijing
  • Confucius' Chambers and a Confucian Temple in Qufu in Shandong Province (southeast of Beijing)
  • Museum of Terra Cotta Soldiers and City Wall Park in Xi'an
  • Wuta Temple and Zaojhun Tomb in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia

In 2005, GIAC China will feature home-stays with Chinese families in Qufu and an overnight visit to the grasslands in Inner Mongolia. Chinese high school students work with GIAC China participants in most activities.
