School Resources and Speakers

  • Douglas Brooks: In Japanese, the traditional boat is known as the wasen. Wa means "traditional Japanese thing" and sen is one suffix meaning boat or ship. Douglas' presentation, Ways of Learning: An Apprentice Boatbuilder in Japan is part of the Vermont Humanities Council's Speakers Bureau Series. This means that any Vermont non-profit can receive funds for an honorarium to bring Douglas to speak to their organization.
  • Peter Barus, head instructor at Donguri Budokai: Kenjutsu, the art of swordsmanship, is the most highly respected of all Japanese martial arts. An affiliate of Great Falls Budôkai, Sterling, Virginia, Donguri Budôkai is part of a network of Dojo across the United States and abroad.
