Hosting a Visiting Scholar

If your school is interested in hosting a teacher or intern, please contact Bill Williams for more information at William.H.Williams@uvm.edu.

We will need to know about host schools by mid-April in order to complete the complicated invitation process.

In-State Programs

Visiting Scholars

To assist Vermont schools in teaching about Asia, ASOP directly invites visiting teachers from China and Thailand and interns from Japan. They teach various aspects of their cultures to Vermont students.

Teachers from China and Thailand visit Vermont for six months. Japanese nationals visit Vermont for various lengths. Receiving schools are responsible for assigning mentor teachers; making arrangements for teaching, local transportation, and activities for the visitors to experience American culture; identifying host families, and covering the cost of lunch. Host families are responsible for housing, food, and, depending on the local arrangements, transportation. All requests for having visiting teachers must be submitted in writing to ASOP Office eight months prior to the arrival of the teachers.
