Asian Studies Outreach Program
About the Asian Studies Outreach Program
For more than a decade, the Asian Studies Outreach Program of the University of Vermont has promoted teaching and learning about Asia in the state of Vermont. The goals and accomplishment of ASOP over the years have been made possible through the continuous funding support from the Freeman Foundation and other donors.
The goal of the ASOP is to introduce Asian culture, history, teaching styles, art and more into American classrooms by providing teachers and faculty with direct interaction and experience with the Asian continent. Our library hosts hundreds of books on a multitude of topics, as well countless other resources. To find out more about the ASOP and what it entails, please explore this website.
The State-wide Program for Asian Studies in Schools was initiated by the Asian Studies Outreach Program (ASOP) of the University of Vermont (UVM) and is funded by the Freeman Foundation. The statewide initiative promotes teaching and learning about Asia in Vermont schools at levels K-12.
The goal of the State-wide Program is to introduce the content of Asia into the curricula of all Vermont schools, kindergarten through the 12 th grade. ASOP cooperates with schools, supervisory unions, and the State Department of Education to implement the State-wide Program.
All activities of the State-wide Program are designed in conformity with Vermont's Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities. Those activities include an in-service program for teachers, overseas programs for teachers and school leaders, school-to-school exchanges, in-state and overseas programs for high school students, curriculum design and instruction, and touring art exhibitions.
Special thank you
ASOP would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Wang Juefei for his many years of dedication and leadership at ASOP. His inspiration has made it possible for thousands of Vermont students, teachers, administrators and citizens to gain a deeper understanding and respect for Asian people and their cultures.
