Our state–of–the–art learning simulator lab contains Sim–People, Sim–Baby, and a computer assisted instructor.
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences' Nurses Learning Lab, located in 237/239/242 Rowell building, is an integral part of the hands–on experience of both undergraduate and graduate students.
Five beds, four exam tables, a demonstration exam table, a private exam room, and a medication room. An additional room houses Sim–Man, Sim–Baby, Nursing Anne, and self–study modules. A conference room with seating for 10 and equipment such as video/DVD players, ceiling projector, hook–up for laptop and video projector round out this high–tech learning facility.
The Nursing Learning Lab provides an environment where students learn psychomotor and physical assessment sills necessary for clinical nursing, before they move into a practice setting with patients. The opportunity to gain familiarity with equipment and techniques in a non threatening environment which simulates the clinical setting is a critical component of skill acquisition.
Traditional baccalaureate, RN and graduate nursing students all utilize the lab.
In addition to scheduled instructional time in the lab, the facilities are open for any student to review and practice their skills and the use of specialized computer programs during weekday and evening hours. The lab contact is Catharine Muskus (Rowell 203, phone: 656–3065). Advance notice is always appreciated.
