Students in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences have access to Vermont's largest medical center (Fletcher Allen Health Care); a distinct advantage over many nursing programs.
At many points in your education, you will need access to support and resources. The Department of Nursing is always here for your tough decisions: advisement and academic needs, confusion about the future, job searches, etc.
Substance Abuse - For free, confidential information regarding help with substance abuse, contact the University Health Center at (800)377-8714 or (802)656-8714 or refer to UVM Substance Abuse Treatment Center.

There is no substitute for careful planning, and in this regard your advisor is an indispensable resource. Rapport between you and your advisor adds an experienced and knowledgeable dimension to your long-range academic planning. Course selection, degree requirements, career and/or graduate program options, and other educational decisions are matters you can discuss with your advisor.
All nursing students are assigned to a faculty advisor within the Department of Nursing. As students progress through the curriculum they often decide to change advisor for a variety of reasons. Frequently, a relationship that began as a student/advisor develops into a friendship that lasts beyond college graduation. The process to change advisors is simple and needs to be initiated within the Department.
If you do not know your advisor's name, you may look it up by going to the Student Information Access section of the Registrar's Office website.
Your advisor can be an invaluable source of information. Getting to know your advisor and other faculty can only enhance your experience at UVM. You are encouraged to meet with your advisor frequently. You should meet before registering for classes each semester. Additionally, you will want to meet with your advisor to discuss withdrawal from any classes, progression within the curriculum, taking a “leave of absence,” and to learn about study abroad options.
The best way to meet with your advisor is to meet during his/her office hours or to arrange for an appointment. You may make appointments directly with your advisor if your class schedule prevents you from being able to meet with them during office hours.
