Located in the Bogotá savannah, La Conejera and other surrounding marshes are part of the most important system of
wetlands in the Northern Andes Mountains and have become an extensive reserve of flora and fauna for the city.
However,
the
drastic spatial reduction of this precious ecosystem and pollution of tributary streams has reduced
the capacity of the marsh
to retain incoming runoff and filter out contaminants. It now experiences flash floodings
that upset its ecological balance.

Thanks to the organizing efforts of concerned neighbors and Bogotá's  Department of Environment,
mitigation and conservation  projects have slowed the degradation process, and
partnership with other government offices have restoration plans in mind.
