| La Conejera is truly a natural jewel for Bogota, and it
should be guarding it as such. As the city keeps sprawling and the
green horizon keeps disappearing, wetlands become even more important
to keep the asphalt jungle connected with the natural world it was once
part of. Despite recent government interest to protect this marsh, plans without financial back up will never leave the paper to become reality. It is apparent from the history of La Conejera that long-lasting change comes from a transparent partnership among grassroots citizen organizations, local authorities, and economic support from interested conservation groups, both national and international. Only this approach will allow our highly urbanized future generations to enjoy natural beauty in their backyard. |
