Stradavari (1644-1737)

Stradavari’s importance is that he established the model of the violin that would be used by all his successors. Stradavari is the most influential violin maker of all time. During his long life he produced some 1000 instruments.

Other Great Early Makers

In Brescia, Italy the first great master was Gasparo di Bertolotti da Salò (1540-1590). Giovanni Paolo Maggini (1580 -1632) was his most important pupil.

Other great makers to follow Stradavari include Cremonese makers Lorenzo Guadagnini (ca. 1695 - ca. 1745) and Giuseppe Guarneri "del Gesu” (1698 - 1744), and Jacob Stainer in Austria (ca. 1621 - 1683).
