  1. Report on specialty group chairs meeting

From Fernando Bosco

    1. New type of membership aimed at colleagues in developing countries

·        $20 buys a full electronic membership

·        intended to stimulate international collaborations

·        information available at www.aag.org

    1. 6500 attendees (as of Wed.) at 2007 conference

·        Biggest AAG conference; 15% non-geographers and 65 concurrent sessions

·        Because conference planning occurs five years in advance, next year’s conference site can only accommodate 50 concurrent sessions.  Specialty groups are being asked to be more selective, or to consolidate papers into larger sessions.  Still, the AAG wants to maintain its inclusive policy (as the conference is the big money-maker for the AAG.)

    1. Reminder announcement: AAG sponsors childcare

·        Reimburse up to $300

·        Works with local arrangements committee to supply list of childcare providers

    1. $0 student fee for specialty groups no longer exists

·        $1 fee now, allows AAG to track membership

    1. New specialty group: (Study of) the American South

·        53 specialty groups in all

    1. Uploaded specialty group report week prior to 2007 meeting

    3. 12 PhD submissions, 1 MA submission
    4. Heard feedback from Reena Patel regarding how she used funds from winnings last year

    2. In particular, want to recognize Meghan Cope’s efforts in founding the specialty group
  1. New volunteers for (student research grant) proposal competition
    1. Not elected office, no fixed term
    2. Encourage past winners and current board members to serve
    3. Need four judges, including Chair
    4. Want to increase number of MA proposals
    5. Volunteers
