The LGBTQA Center@UVM is committed to building a respectful, friendly, inclusive community and learning environment for LGBTQ people at UVM. To this end, we offer:
Drop-In Center
We have a drop-in center located in the Allen House, Room 100. Come hang out, read on our comfy couch, or study on one of our study station computers with free printing.
Education
Our staff provides consultation and training about sexual orientation and
gender identity issues to a wide range of groups, classes, and individuals on-campus.
In the past, we’ve presented in classes, ranging from Women’s
Studies to Health to Education. We provide training to Departments and work
with Administration, including the offices of the President and Provost, Police
Services, Residential Life, the Dean of Students, Human Resources, Athletics
and the Center for Health and Well-Being. To schedule a presentation or training,
give us a call at 656-8637 or contact
us by e-mail.
Advocate Training
We believe it’s important and necessary for LGBTQ people to have advocates--heterosexual and/or gender normative people who will take a stand against transphobia, homophobia, and heterosexism, support LGBTQ people, and help build communities based upon equality and respect. We offer training specifically on becoming an advocate. Please call 656-8637 if you are interested in scheduling an Advocate training.
For more information, articles, and a downloadable “LGBTQA Affirming”
card, take a look at the Advocate page.
Outreach and Support

The LGBTQA Center helps build community among LGBTQA people, fostering educational opportunities, advocacy and activism, social networks, and just plain fun. Read
more.
UVM Pride Alumni Organization
We are helping to build a network of LGBTQA UVM Alumni/ae and have a fledgling
alumni group forming to help you stay in touch with UVM. As of June of 2003,
UVM Pride Alumni includes 187 members from the Class of ’44 through the
present. If you’re an alumni/ae and would like to join, please contact
us. Read more.
LGBTQA Listservs
The LGBTQA Center maintains two listservs designed for LGBTQA students, staff, and faculty at UVM and for everyone who shares a commitment to the elimination of all forms of discrimination, especially discrimination on the basis of sexuality and gender identity:
lgbt-discuss@list.uvm.edu: LGBT regional and local events, news, and discussion e-mail list, as well as all posts that appear on the “lgbt-announce” e-mail list. You must be subscribed to “lgbt-discuss” in order to post to it.
lgbt-announce@list.uvm.edu: an announcements-only list. This list has much less traffic than the “lgbt-discuss” e-mail list and is intended only for LGBTQA events at UVM. This list is managed by the LGBTQA Center. You don’t have to be subscribed in order to submit a message for approval. Each message is reviewed and posted to the list if it meets the list criteria described above.
All the messages that are sent to the “lgbt-announce” e-mail list are also sent to the “lgbt-discuss” e-mail list. Thus you will want to be on one or the other of these lists, not both.
To join a mailing list, send an email to listserv@list.uvm.edu with NO SUBJECT and the following as the body (remember to delete your signature if you have one!):
subscribe LISTNAME YOURNAMESo, if Ima Student wanted to subsribe to the Discuss listserv, ze would write the following in the body of the email:
subscribe LGBT-DISCUSS Ima StudentAlternatively, if you are uncomfortable giving your name, you can also put "Anonymous" in place of you name. In either case, ETS may send you an email back verifying your identity. Follow the directions in the message, and you should be finished.
If at any point you would like to unsubscribe to a listserv, you can send a message to listserv@uvm.edu, with NO SUBJECT and the following in the body (again, remember to delete your signature if you have one):
unsubscribe LISTNAMEFor more directions about how to subscribe or unsubscribe yourself, see the ETS Mailing List site. Alternatively, you can e-mail us, and we can add you to either list.
If you have any questions please email the LGBTQA Center at lgbtqa@uvm.edu or visit their website at www.uvm.edu/~lgbtqa.
