LGBTQAwards & Rainbow Graduation
The LGBTQA Center hosts an annual LGBTQAwards & Rainbow Graduation Ceremony in May after Spring Semester classes end, complete with music, food, and fun, to celebrate UVM's LGBTQA community, its many achievements, and the LGBTQA students who are graduating - both undergrads and grads.
Eight awards are given each year to LGBTQA students, staff, and faculty who have made important contributions to UVM and/or the LGBTQA community here. The Awards Committee solicits nominations for each award in February and early March. The awards are:
- 1) Glen Elder Leadership Award
- 2) Betty Jo Brauer Social Justice Award
- 3) Community Leadershp Award
- 4) Emerging Leadership Award
- 5) Bridge Building Award
- 6) Jackie Weinstock Service Award
The Provost also presents the Provost's Courage Award and the Provost’s Commitment to Equity and Inclusion Award. Additionally, the Sexuality and Gender Identity Studies award, the Daniel-McCarter Award, is presented at this event.
In addition to giving out awards, we also honor LGBTQA graduating students with a rainbow stole and graduation certificate. In 2012, 50 graduating students--both undergrads and grads--participated in the Rainbow Graduation.
We had a fabulous time at this year's 10th Annual LGBTQAwards and Rainbow Graduation on Thursday, May 5th from 4-6 PM in the Maple Ballroom of the Davis Center. Check out the slideshow below to reminisce or get excited about next year - especially if you are going to be a graduate!
