Since its inception, the unit has recruited three Directors of Research and is the host unit for two prestigious Chairs of Excellence awarded by the ANR. This unit has recently moved to Bordeaux.
Dr. Tzourio is expert in the design, management, and scientific reporting of large population-based cohort studies. He is strongly involved in two population-based cohorts: the EVA Study in Nantes (1,380 participants, 6-year follow-up) and the 3 City (3C) study (9,293 participants, 12-year follow-up). He is the Co-PI of the entire 3C study and the PI of the Dijon center. He is the PI of the ALBA trial on the prevention of silent cerebral infarcts and white matter lesions through lowering of blood pressure. He has a specific interest in the risk factors of vascular cognitive decline and in genetic epidemiology using GWAS. Dr. Debette, a talented young investigator in this field, recently joined his lab.
