Generation one

"Generation one" is the first line of transformers that were sold in the US by Hasbro. It was based on the Diaclone line of toys produced by Takara in Japan. They are characterized by their alt modes which were mostly vehicles of some sort, and their simple, blocky robot modes, which, while not particularly poseable, usually had very little "kibble" from their alt modes to detract from their appearance. Hasbro also used a few toys produced by Bandai for some of their deluxe figures. Many more pictures coming soon.

Jetfire

Autobot Jetfire is a transformer that will look familiar to Robotech and Macross fans, since the toy is based on the Macross toys produced by Bandai. You can see him here in robot and in gerwalk mode. he also has an airplane mode, which is not shown, yet. His appearance and transformation are remarkably acurate to the depection on the robotech and macross shows. Jetfire is mostly constructed of plastic, but there are several important parts made of die cast metal. More pictures, and a take apart guide, coming soon.

Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime is the leader of the noble Autobots, he is, perhaps, the single most memorable character from eighties animated children's television. He transforms from a robot into a semi truck, and the toy has a simple but satisfying design with several die cast metal parts. The front of his cab folds down to reveal seats that were orignially intended to house a pilot, when the toy was part of Takara's Diaclone line. Takara's name for the toy was "Convoy." The introduction of the "Optimus Primal" gorilla character from the original Beast Wars line caused a hew and cry of "Trukk not monkey!" from G1 purists. I am a fan of G1, but I am not exactly a purist, in fact I think that "Big Convoy" the woolly mammoth from Beast Wars Neo is a superior toy, of course it should be with the advantage of twenty years of advancing toy technology.
