A description of the school and community:
Marion Cross School is a K-6 public school located in Norwich
Vermont, Although the setting is rural with just over 3,000
inhabitants, it is located near Hanover New Hampshire, home of
Dartmouth College. This K-6 school had 422 students enrolled in
1997-1998. Class size averages 18.8 and 2.6% of students qualify
for food assistance funds.
When the project took place:
1998
A description of the project: Using the
internet, students followed the progress of 3-4 mushers during the
1998 Iditarod in Alaska. They compared the weather in Alaska and
Vermont and reported on the progress of 3-4 mushers. These results
were shated with the class and school.
How technology is used:
Students used the internet to access information,
they used a wordprocessor to write weather reports and a
spreadsheet program to graph and display the weather in Alaska and
Vermont.
Why you chose this as an exemplar:
Students participated in a multidisciplinary project about an
exciting event. They performed the searches, located and used
internet resources and constructed their results.
