Dear Joyce, Kathy, Tim, and Tim,
Thanks so much for agreeing to participate in the November/December
PBS TeacherLine Community Center events! We're looking forward to
your participation as panelists in the asynchronous discussion.
As you may have already been told, the topic for the month is "Beyond
Planning: Technology Integration." Attached please find a topic
guide. Of course, we know you all know lots about technology
integration--the guide is simply meant to help us define some areas
of focus. If you have any questions about how to incorporate the
ideas in the guide into your panel presentation, don't hesitate to
get in touch.
Here's a quick outline of what needs to be done between now and
(gulp!) Monday. Sorry that this is so last minute--we really do
appreciate your rising to the occasion!
(Thursday)
* First, we're going to send you a few questions about technology
integration to which we'd like you to respond. Your responses should
be about 75-150 words for each response--about the same length as a
short email or a post to a discussion group.
(Thursday)
* We're going to take your responses and post them to the TeacherLine
discussion board. We'll be logging in as you when we post them, so
it'll seem like they're from you.
(Friday, and over weekend)
* Once all of your responses have been posted, we'll ask you to go
to
the discussion board and respond to at 3 or 4 of your colleagues'
posts. We'll walk you through the discussion board environment over
the phone to describe how to go about doing that.
(Monday)
* Once all these responses (and responses to responses) have been
posted, the discussion will be open to the public. Then we'll just
ask you to log on once every other day or so to read what folks are
saying, and to respond to issues as you can. There will also be a PBS
moderator responding, and sending you notices when someone asks a
question meant for you.
Here's what we need from you right away:
* A brief bio--about 1100-150 words. This is to let folks know what
your technology integration context is, and what your background and
experience in educational technology is. Also, provide us a link to
your personal or organizational Web page.
* A photo--as high-quality (resolution-wise) and as large as you can
get us. A high-resolution (.TIF) scan of a print photo is best. Let
us know what you have, we can work with you.
Tomorrow morning (Thursday), I'll be sending you the questions.
Please respond to them by the end of the day Thursday. Again, sorry
for the quick turnaround... PLEASE let us know as soon as possible
if
you're not going to be able to respond.
I will call each of you tomorrow to try and schedule a time for
Friday that I can walk you through the discussion board environment
and get you set up to respond to your colleagues' postings. We can
also talk about strategies for your ongoing participation over the
two weeks (11/20-12/5).
I'll look forward to getting your bio and photo!
Feel free to contact me with any questions that you might have (I
know there will be some--don't be shy about calling or writing!)
-Jim
