There is of course no substitute for taking children or adolescents on
real field trips. However, working with world wide web
resources sparked the idea of taking virtual field trips. I have
integrated some interesting locations I discovered with URLs and
interesting ideas I found in the article "Virtual Vacation" by
Michael Swaine, MacUser, July 1995.
What would your lessons be like if students could see in "real time"
the people and places they are studying? As a teacher consider the
possibilities that will emerge as real time video becomes part of the
World Wide Web.
I like the following page for a number of reasons. One of those
reasons is that it very nicely demonstrates the potential of using sound
in a file accessible through the WWW.
