2001

The UVM investment club was founded during a cold and windy January 2001 by Matt Preusser and Robert Maletta. The club was started on the belief that many students would be intereseted in using the fundamentals of the stock market to invest and watch their money grow. Sure enough the club has been a huge success and its membership is constantly growing (even if our portfolio isn't).

Matt and Rob come from the same High school in Queens, New York, where they also started Molloy's first ever Investment club in 1997. During those years the Molloy investment club watched the stock market take off in front of their eyes (now they get to watch it try to land) (2001).

Rob and Matt hope to bring Wall Street as close as possible to all the students at UVM, and in the case of the Club members, bring the students to Wall Street. That's right, stay tuned to our events section for info on our yearly trips to NYC.

2002 - 2004

From 2002 until 2004 the UVM Investment Club has increased its size to over 50 official members. Taking up the role as President during the two years has been Justin Chandler, an MIS major who during the his second term leading the Investment Club (Junior year) began working as a paid intern for UBS Financial Services, where he currently still is.

A few changes were made to the structure of the club during this time, but mostly fine-tuning was needed to continue what Matt and Rob had laid out.

Currently, meetings take place twice a month, or once every two weeks. With presentations (ppt., etc.), videos, guest speakers, and as the yearly trip nears, etiquette and professionalism seminars.

During the 2004 trip there were over twenty participants, including faculty, who enjoyed the never-before opportunity of going down onto the NYSE floor during trading hours to watch and ask questions of actual specialists and spend time at the heart of the financial world. Thanks to our ever-inspiring and gracious host, Murray Teitlebaum
