Children's drawing of bee

What's all this buzzzz about anyway?
A webquest for fourth graders

Introduction
Ahhh, Summer! Imagine yourself in a few months' time. Will you be swimming? Camping? Playing outside late into the evening? The grass is green, the trees are full of leaves, the water is warm, and the flowers are simply...DEAD?
That's right fourth graders:
There are no flowers.
There is no honey.
There are no bees.
Lately, bees have been dying off around the world and nobody knows why. The honey bee population is facing serious problems, and the results will be horrific.
THIS MUST STOP!

The Challenge

So, now that you've understood that the bee population is drastically decreasing, you've got to make an action to stop it. Your challenge is to find all the information you can on this and brainstorm ways to solve the problem, with a final goal of getting this out there and inspiring others like you to help end this problem.
1. First, research any information you can find on what exactly honeybees do. This is important for understanding the roles that honey bees play, which will help in finding ways to save them. I have listed websites below on understanding what role bees play.
2. Next, research for information you can find on why bees are disappearing. Below, I have listed some helpful research engines and websites that will aid you in finding these facts.
3. With this information, it is important that you find ways in which to put an end to this problem. Again, I have listed below a number of resources on completing this part of the task.
4. Then, using the information you have discovered, make a pamphlet, poster, or flyer. Whatever you choose to make will be handed out around your school, your neighborhood, and your town. The point is to get the word out there and start making a difference!
