| Happy
Birthday to
you! You may not know it, but today is your birthday and you have just
received a brand new iPod from your grandparents. Bummer for you,
your
mom said you have keep the volume at the half way mark. You
insisted
that when you crank the volume, you'll only have it loud for certain
songs and that you'll be extremely careful not to ruin your
eardrums. Your mom is set in her ways and will not allow
it.
She says that it's bad for your ears and your hearing will "pay" for it
in the future. You have decided to prove her wrong by doing a
little
research on the Internet. To your surprise, you found that loud
headphones can in fact damage
your hearing and that other activities you never thought to be a threat
to your ears can be harmful as well. You love your hearing and
cannot imagine your life without it. You want to inform your
friends and classmates of your new discoveries and have made it
your personal mission to create a way to communicate to your school the
affects of certain activities on their hearing. |

Did you know...?
~Dogs can hear 2 to 5 times
better than humans can. Why is that?
~At a temperature of 68 degrees F sound travels 756 miles/hr. As the temperature rises, the speed of sound gets faster. How can that be? ~Sound is measured in units called decibels (dB). The human ear can hear as low as 0 dB. A human whisper is 10 dB and a rocket pad launch is 180 dB. ~Dolphins have the best hearing of all mammals. All you need is 2
pieces of string, a metal coat hanger, a bowl of water, metal spoon, a
table, and two fingers!
