Butterfly Exploration!
Through
this webquest you will explore the life cycle and the migration of
Monarch Butterfly, which you can see right here in Vermont!
Life Cycle:
Butterflies as many other animals, begin as a egg.
When the butterfly
emerges from it's egg it turns into a caterpillar
After the butterfly
spends some time as a catterpillar, it wraps itself up into a cacoon.
Can you guess the
final stage of a butterfly life cycle?
A butterfly!! When it emerges from it's cacoon it is then a butterfly!

What happens when it gets cold
in Vermont where do the butterflies go?
Have you ever seen a flock of
butterflies flying over head or resting in a field altogether in the
fall?
If you have these are
butterflies migrating south for warner weather and to find more food!

Your
Quest:
Now that you know the basics
of how a butterfly becomes a butterfly, and where they go when it gets
cold, we are going to go a little deeper! Using the websites on
this site and others that you might be able to find, you are going to
create a play! This play is going to show what you have learned
about butterflies and how they go from an egg to a butterfly.
Your play should also show why butterflies migrate and what happens
when it gets cold, and why butterflies go south. You can write
the play by yourself and ask other students to be your actors or you
can write it with a group of classmates, no more than four. The
information that you have in your play should go beyond the information
on this page, you will need to use the websites below and ones you may
find on your own.
