Welcome Kindergarteners

What do you think about when you hear the word Thanksgiving? Do you think about turkey, or mash potatoes, or maybe football? Do you know why we celebrate Thanksgiving? Would you like to learn about this awesome day?

Thanksgiving is a holiday that many families in the United States celebrate during the month of November. This holiday is about giving thanks for what we have in our lives. Do you know how this celebration came about? The Pilgrims had a harvest celebration in the fall of  1621 to give thanks for the crops that they grew with the help of the Native Americans. There were about 50 pilgrims and around 90 Wampanoag men at this first celebration.

How many people do you usually celebrate Thanksgiving with? Do you do the same thing every Thanksgiving with your family? This would be called a tradition. A tradition is the handing down of information, beliefs, or customs from one generation to another.  An example of a Thanksgiving tradition would be always going over to a certain relatives house or maybe making a secret recipe that your grandma taught your mom to make. Traditions are fun, and they bring people together.
