| Introduction: You are a geologist;
you focus your studies in the area of volcanoes. A large part of
your job is traveling to different volcanoes and studying if they show
any signs of possible eruption of not. Problem: A small community has started to develop on the side of Mt. Bluff. The town’s people need your help to tell weather the volcano has any signs of possible eruption. The town’s people also want to know if the eruption is going to be a non-explosive or an explosive eruption. Remember non-explosive eruptions are still dangerous. Look at the web sites provided and gather information about what might cause a volcano to erupt. Also look for information on some of the characteristics that might create a non-explosive or an explosive volcano's. |

Look at the information about Mt. Bluff below that is provided
below. As the geologist you have to decide if you think the
volcano is going to erupt. If you believe the mountain is
going to erupt then decide what type of eruption it is going to
be. (Either a explosive or non-explosive) It may help to
write down the characteristics of Mt. Bluff and bring that information
of your journey.
Write a letter to the town’s people telling them what you have discovered. Include what you have discovered, if the volcano is going to erupt, and what type of eruption it might be. Make sure to include scientific information to back up what you are telling the towns people. Also tell the towns people if it will be safe for them to continue living on the side of the volcano or if they should re-locate. |
